What to Do Before Your Visit

Helpful tips while you wait for your emergency appointment

Toothache

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to reduce bacteria. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek if swelling is present.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Handle the tooth by the crown only—never touch the root. Keep it moist by placing it in a glass of milk or between your cheek and gum. Come in immediately—time is critical for re-implantation.

Broken Tooth

Save any tooth pieces if possible. Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. If there's bleeding, apply gauze with gentle pressure. Come in as soon as possible for repair.

Lost Filling

Apply dental wax or sugar-free gum as a temporary cover to protect the exposed area. Avoid chewing on that side. Schedule an appointment soon to prevent further damage or infection.

Call our office number and follow the prompts for after-hours emergencies. We have protocols in place for urgent situations outside of regular business hours and will do our best to accommodate you as quickly as possible.
Call us first. Emergency rooms typically cannot perform dental procedures—they can only provide pain medication and antibiotics. We can provide the actual treatment you need to resolve the problem. However, if you have severe swelling affecting breathing or swallowing, go to the ER immediately.
